These flotation devices for Optimist dinghies are made of polyurethane-coated nylon. They are approximately twice as light and significantly more durable than PVC or PVC-coated nylon buoys. Some buoys are equipped with a twist-lock valve. This valve is attached to a tube, allowing the buoy to be inflated and deflated easily and quickly. The 48-liter buoys are slightly heavier than the 43-liter ones, but after a capsize, the volume of water in the boat is considerably less.
