These balls are positioned on the rope to allow for stopping or locking the rope once the ball is secured by a pulley, fairlead, shackle, spinnaker pole jaw, etc. On a boat, these stopper balls will be positioned on all halyards, spinnaker sheets (spinnaker pole side only) and small adjustments.
