These balls are positioned on the rope to allow it to stop or block once the ball is blocked by a pulley, fairlead, shackle, spinnaker pole jaw, etc. On a boat, these stopper balls will be placed on all halyards, spinnaker sheets (spinnaker pole side only) and small adjustments.
