This cage lock is designed to prevent accidental jamming and improve performance by keeping lightly loaded lines in the cleat jaws. When a halyard or control line is released from a cleat equipped with a cage lock, the lock prevents it from falling back into the cleat and jamming again, for example when lowering a spinnaker while racing!
