The fairlead cage allows lines to be caught and uncaught at up to a 70-degree angle, rather than just aligning them with the cleat. Adding cages to stud-equipped cleats allows the helmsman or crew to adjust a trim line from different positions quickly, easily, and efficiently, without the risk of accidental snagging.
